The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of DeWitt Place Assisted Living and to the staff of Morristown Hamblen Hospital. William Eugene (Bill) Compton was born on Apin Amarillo, Texas and passed away on in Dallas, Texas after a courageous ten month battle with cancer. granddaughters, Amanda Compton of Atlanta, GA and Abby Compton of Beijing, China special friend, Dorcas Noe and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. of Morristown sisters, Helen Todd of Decatur, GA and Marian (Nelson) Lee of Seneca, S.C. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Charles and Eva Wood Compton wife, Doris Burkett Compton daughter Cynthia Compton brother, Alton Compton and sister, Hazel Compton Dyer. He earned a degree in textile engineering from Clemson University and was employed by American Enka/BASF for 33 years. He returned to the United States in December 1945 and married his high school sweetheart, Doris Burkett. His unit landed in France one month after D-Day, survived the Battle of the Bulge and witnessed the German surrender in Berlin. ![]() ![]() ![]() He was a proud member of the “Greatest Generation”, serving in a howitzer unit assigned to General George S. He was a Mason, until declining health prevented his participation. He was a faithful member of Manley Baptist Church and the O.D. “W.C.” Compton, 93, of Morristown, departed this life Saturday Apto be with his Heavenly Father.
